Best & Worst Dressed: The 2014 Oscars

As much as it pains me to do so I have to cover the Oscars Red Carpet. I am not an awards show fan by any means, but I do secretly love to watch what people are wearing before heading to bed. Now since everyone has gotten it out of their systems let me give my take on the Best/Worst dressed. :-)

Best Dressed

First on the chopping block is Kelly Osborne. I absolutely love both dresses.... There's clearly a reason she is on Fashion Police. The red carpet dress is simple, slightly dramatic, and elegant. Her after party dress looks just as phenomenal as the first. The new cocktail dress is interesting to the eye, and extremely flattering. She looks classic, modern, and effortless at the same time. Nice job Kelly.

Next up is Lupita Nyong'o from "12 Years of Slavery". Let me preface this by saying that her dress is STUNNING on her. The entire award season has been magical for her. We've seen her in amazing dress after dress. Lupita's stylist Micaela Erlanger she has a very tasteful eye for what looks good on this dark skinned beauty. I'm definitely a sucker for light colored gowns on darker women, and a good neckline is always a winner. Despite all of the positives I'm not a fan of the headband coming back into style with this look, and the fit is awkward around her bust area. Despite those two small things her face doesn't fail to be stunning, and the color compliments her complexion flawlessly. Overall she gets an A+.

The last of my best dressed is Kate Hudson. She rarely fails to impress me at awards shows (Goldie taught her well) and this is no different. We see her in her signature plunging neck lined gown paired with a barely there nearly couture gown for the after party. Her styling is simple to make the main focus her gown and flawless body. I'm generally not a fan of light colored gowns on fair skinned women, but if you're going to do it go for broke. Trust me she went for broke.

Worst Dressed

On to one of my favorite parts of todays post. The worst dressed list is a great way to tell who's off their game this award season. Granted none of these looks were tragic but just fell short of where they are.

Pharell's up first to bat here. He wore shorts to the Oscars.....Enough Said.

Lady GaGa's look is very #tbt for me. It looks like a dress that J.Lo would wear to the Grammys circa 2005 (minus any shear panels). This was a miss for the pop icon despite her amazing figure, and beat face.

Last up is one of my favorite funny ladies Bette Midler. I know my girls are going to crucify me for putting her up, but no guts no glory. She came to the show in a dates 90sish ensemble. The fit was not flattering and the color was pretty blah. This acting legend may be amazing but her dress was definitely not as amazing....period. Nice try Bette we still love you.

Who was your favorite starlet on the red carpet? Let me know in the comments below.

Thank you for reading everyone.

Perceived Style

My name is Kevin Kamari Foreman but you can call me Kam for short. I am a New York based up and coming designer/stylist. The idea to begin blogging about fashion came about over a glass of wine with a designer friend of mine Kenny M. at the end of 2013. I was showing him some of the looks I had put together for my birthday when he turned to me and said - "you have a good eye... maybe you should try getting into fashion yourself." That's when Perceived Style was born. I have an obsession with classic American prep, bodybuilding, grooming, beauty products, and fashion in general so it was a good fit for me. Before my blogging days I used to be very depressed, very overweight, self conscious, and constantly self-defeating myself. Fashion helped pull me out of that. It taught me to live life, love the skin I'm in, and care about what's on it. So when I was creating the blog it was easy to decide what it would be about. The main focus of Perceived Style is to inspire people to be comfortable in their own skin, to smile more, and to care more about their overall appearance using tips and photos. Job History: I used to work at BFCU in bethpage long island. Now I am the creative directior/CEO for Perceived Style and a freelance menswear designer as of June 2014. Education: I went to Farmingdale College for 2 years then moved to Hofstra for the last 2 years. I presently am taking continuing classing in blogging, fashion writing, and design. Interests: Art, Fashion Shows, Menswear, Shopping, Photography, Womens Fashion, and Food/Movies.
